Protocol
mention nothing about dress code in official functions but Prime Minister opted a monogrammed pin
striped suit with his name " Narendra Damodardas Modi " forming the stripes in
New Delhi, on January 25, 2015.
Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is known
to have a similar outfit.
The suit
was fashioned by JadeBlue, an Ahmedabad-based chain of garment stores favoured
by Modi for close to two decades now.
"The
suit was stitched from a suit length especially woven for the PM. Modiji is a
fashion icon and this was a homage to his strong personalized style of
functioning and power dressing," said Bipin Chauhan, owner of Jade Blue,
who also owns the registered label "Modi kurta" — the casual half
sleeved kutra worn by Modi. Chauhan declined to reveal the place where the suit
length was woven but said it was definitely "Made in India".
It is from Jade Blue that Modi buys his trademark kurta, labelled Modi Kurta, which the store has
registered (with Modi's permission) under its name. If Narendra Modi is today being
hailed as a fashion icon for his dressing sense and
style, some of the credit should go to this store.
One of my
friend ( a fashion designer) estimated the cost as ₹ 80,000 for this high end designer outfit.
Interestingly
in social media as well as in broadcasting
media, this price is being cited exorbitantly high, such as one million Indian Rupees!!! Even BBC news shared the sceptical news.
